KONY. Part 2.

April 19th, 2012 | by: | filed under: NEWS, PHOTO & FILM

I received the KONY Part 2 video over two weeks ago. Caught up in all the pro’s and con’s surrounding the KONY 2012 campaign I was hesitant to post it. I’ve now decided that I am pro the campaign.

I’m not pro the campaign because of it’s goal, although bringing the world together to capture a man responsible for the things shown in the films is indeed a noble act. I’m not pro the campaign because of it’s success. I work in marketing & design and do admire Invisible Children for what they’ve achieved in a marketing sense. The fact is that without their KONY 2012 campaign millions of people around the world would have no idea who Joseph Kony is or what he has and continues to do. The campaign has made Joseph Kony famous, however, this is not the reason I am pro KONY 2012.

Invisible Children’s KONY 2012 campaign has given me hope that the youth of today can actually influence what happens in the world we live in. Writing a letter or sending an email to political leaders does have an effect when done on mass. We, as civilians, have power. This is an idea that many young people have failed to act upon, forgotten about, grown ignorant to or never known to begin with. Knowing that we do have the ability to make the world a better place if we choose to is a powerful thing. Something that Invisible Children has shown us with their KONY 2012 campaign. Whether the campaign reaches its goal of capturing Joseph Kony, whether it’s all a front to get the public onside to an invasion to steal Uganda’s oil/natural resources, or whether any other argument for or against the campaign is true; action has been taken and it has been the pressure put on the worlds leaders by us, the civilians of the planet, our friends and our families that has caused this. People can come together for a cause to create change. It’s just up to us to decide what this change is to be and to keep the passion for this change burning. This is why I am pro KONY 2012.

Erica Simone’s “Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen bloomed from an initial questioning about clothing and its importance in society today. Fashion and what we wear act as a language: they allow us to silently portray who we are or want to be, offering society an impression on us – whatever that may be. Fashion also tends to segregate and place us into various social categories as well as communicate a certain mood or particular feeling…”
