Story of every creative professionals life…

I think every creative on the planet can tell you a story about how someone; a start-up business, a big business, a self professed entrepreneur or even a close friend has asked them to work for free or for a beer or for ‘more work in the future’. Take note anyone asking for creative services:

ASSUMING NO VALUE IN A CREATIVES WORK, NO MATTER WHAT FIELD, IS LIKE SPITTING IN THEIR FACE.

Thanks to Gerry Mak from Lost at Eminor for finding this.

Peaches Rocks

Peaches was the highlight at Big Day Out, Perth. Anyone who ‘crowd walks’ and can keep singing is amazing. Her costumes and techy instruments are always good to see! If you haven’t seen Peaches live… GO, RIGHT NOW!

Red Brigades, The Mourning Sons & Orange Room.

Thanks to Rhys from Academy For Men for alerting me to this show on tomorrow night… line-up is epic! Im impressed with every band on this list. The rock riffs coming out of the Pony on Thursday will make your life better.

The official word:

“With great demand, Red Brigades are back in Melbourne after an interstate and Victorian tour. They will be showcasing their hypnotic tunes with Melbourne grunge powerhouse The Mourning Sons and Orange Room at Pony this Thursday. Expect to find yourself trapped in Red Brigades’ menace and exhilaration as they present an ongoing series of experimental noise shows that suck you in with their layered and magnetic melodies.

DJ Marky – Best International DJ 2009

The annual Drum And Bass Awards were held on the 28th February (little old…sorry) at the Custard Factory in Birmingham.

The Best International DJ award went to my all time favourite DJ MARKY!

A massive congratulations goes out to the tornado from Sao Paulo as he collects his second award in two years for being the best international DnB DJ on the planet.

Dj Marky heads to Australia very soon… and I’ll be there for sure!

Spring Court present The Duke Spirit.

Spring Court in conjunction with FBI Radio Presents UK band The Duke Spirit at the Beach Road Hotel this Thursday night. Should be a huge night, it’s a FREE show, so my recommendation, get there early….

About Spring Court:
Since its creation in 1936, Spring Court has been at the forefront of design and functionality.  Hand made using Egyptian cotton or perforated leather top, a natural rubber sole, and other quality materials, this French shoe revolutionized the sneaker game with features such as removable insole with an arch support that incorporates the famous 8 ventilation channels, and all around functionality.
“Heritage, Comfort & Style”. This is the spirit behind the Spring Court sneakers collection. With its distinctive elegance, it’s no wonder why Spring Court has found itself on the feet of notable celebrities such as Kate Moss, Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, Liam Gallagher, and before them, Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin and John Lennon, who wore the classic white canvas Spring Courts on the Beatles’ iconic “Abbey Road” album cover… that him in the white.

And speaking of Spring Court… Loz and I where over east and stumbled across the Spring Court Surry Hills store whilst trying to find a little hidden gallery. I love the store fit out and also the mass collection of prints on the walls. I reccomend going to see Zach, a nice guy and ex-Perth dweller who knows his shit, and he’ll hook you up with your next pair of kicks.

Sooners and The Spirits, out of Syndey

Loz and I were in Sydney at the start of the year and were lucky enough to sneak into the Oxford Art Factory one night when they put on 10 bands for free. Theres some fine new rock talent and some hard teen angst coming out of the place. Sooners and The Spirits fall into the former category. They both played good sets, emotional and involved. It’s great to see bands getting completely obsorbed by the music they’re creating and it definitely made the connection with the crowd rock solid. Hunt both these bands down and see them live… The Spirits are now residents at the factory, so get down on a friday and rock some.

New Dirrty Glam. Fresh from France.

I can’t read french, but you don’t need to to appreciate the original DIRRTYGLAM, an online mag out of France. They have gone one better (if your french is not that good) and put out an English version. DIRRTYGLAM is full of fresh fashion out of europe and finishes with some nice music from around the globe. Big ups to the DIRRTY team: Alie Suvelor, Alex Kolasinski, Jennifer Pauline, Andre Williams and Marian Kihogu.
